0:02Same vaccine multiple times?
0:03It's a great question, so please keep watching
0:05because I'm going to break it down for you.
0:08Some vaccines do require several doses
0:10Teaching the body to recognize & respond to disease
0:11to teach the body how to recognize
0:14and then respond to a particular disease.
0:18So, for instance, DTaP.
0:19DTaP
0:20diphtheria tetanus pertussis
0:20DTaP covers diphtheria,
0:21tetanus and pertussis —
0:22whooping cough
0:23also known as whooping cough.
0:24And kids need five doses
0:25for great protection
0:27because the first three doses
0:29First three doses build immunity
0:31help build that immunity.
0:32Two booster doses ensure protection lasts
0:33And then the two booster doses
0:34make sure that that protection doesn't fade.
0:36Whooping cough can be
0:37very serious,
0:38especially in babies, and about a third of babies
0:401/3 need to be hospitalized
0:40under 6 months of age need to be hospitalized
0:43because they can't breathe if they have this disease.
0:46The multi-dose series is proven
0:47to be the most effective way to keep kids healthy.
