0:00What do you remember most about the night you took home your first Grammy?
0:06And even the best new artist award, I mean,
0:09that moment, the magnitude of them.
0:11And then what followed?
0:12Well, winning best new artist is something you can only do that one time and it's very special because it's multigenre, so you're competing against folks from rock, rap, you know, pop, everything. And uh, so winning that was very special, and it puts you in a very, uh, you know, nice, uh, you know, company of great artists who have won that award over the years. And you know, it really my career had already started, but that was like the, you know, stamp of approval from this industry saying, you know, welcome to this industry, and, uh, it's only been up from there.
0:45My goodness, to say the least.
0:46John Legend.
0:48How would you describe your artistry when you first entered to who you are now?
0:53I think it's always evolving, and I think that's what artists do, that's, you know, we can't help ourselves. We, uh, we live, we learn, we go through life, and we, uh, make art that responds to that and speaks to that, and hopefully speaks to other people, uh, and their life experiences as well. And so that's what I've been doing. Just writing music, making records, touring, and, and, uh, enjoying being an artist in the world.
1:58And now your beautiful wife Chrissy is also helping to find the next generation of talent on Star search.
2:05How cool is that?
2:05She's on Star search, and you know, when I was young, my dream was to be on Star search, and, uh, I won the local Star search competition, uh, and they sent my tape off to Ed McMahon, and I got no calls back from Ed McMahon, so I never made the national show.
2:16But if you look at the archives of Star search, you know, they've, uh, had some of our great artists.
