Globally right now there is growth in both the size and the proportion of older persons in the population. This presents new challenges for health care systems around the world. In the U.S. for example, the population of those over 85 years will more than double in size from 6.5 million people in 2022 to 17.3 million people in 2050. More than ever before, advancing research on aging and health – from intrinsic diseases of aging such as cancer, diabetes, and dementia, to health systems or structures that support scaling approaches in aging health care and health care interventions – is crucial.
Technology-enabled care offers a vital solution for older adults, particularly those who are homebound, live in rural or underserved areas, or face mobility limitations. Right now, the journal “Clinical Interventions in Aging” is doing a call for papers on research that explores the impact of technology-enabled care in addressing care delivery challenges and enhancing health care for older adults.
