I represent generations of women in my family who came to the US with the hopes of fulfilling the American Dream. I stand on the shoulders of the trailblazers that come before me. I am in awe of all our community leaders, activists and changemakers who have raised their voices to #StopAsianHate. I represent the change that has allowed me to be here today, and all that still needs to be done.
As AAPI Heritage Month comes to a close, I am more activated than ever to keep the energy and unbridled pride of our community going. Our community comes from a plethora of different countries each with their own unique cultures and stories. We are resilient. We are strong. And we won't be silent. We are transforming our voices into a rally cry that is shifting the narrative of what it means to be Asian American.
Growing up, I always found myself wanting to stay out of the way, to defer to others and never make waves. As an adult, I am overcome with emotion as we shatter glass ceilings all around us and witness the full potential of what we are capable of. We are leaders across nearly every industry –– tech, beauty, fashion. We are nurses. We are creatives. We are athletes. We are the heroes of our own stories. I’ve never been more proud to be Asian American.
The Asian American Foundation invests in the AAPI community, mobilizes against hate, and advocates for better representation. As a fourth generation Japanese American, I’m proud to stand with @nike and @taaforg to continue the fight against Asian hate, to amplify AAPI voices and to create a more equitable future for the next generation. Learn more at TAAF.org and let’s keep this going.
