Many authors who use third-party services to support their publication journey can inadvertently get caught up in unethical practices due to lack of awareness about how to distinguish between ethical third-party services and unethical ones.
This means one can also get tricked into paying acceptance fees for articles that were never submitted to a journal. At Taylor & Francis journals we've been aware of many such instances thanks to vigilant authors flagging when they have been scammed, or almost scammed.
